The Arnold Palmer Tea Story
Arizona’s Arnold Palmer Half & Half is getting a lot of buzz lately for its adherence to the $.99 big can in the midst of historic inflation fueled by the both the pandemic and war in Ukraine. So we thought this would be a good time to remind everyone of the origin of the Arnold Palmer Tea brand.
In 2001, long-time TKO client Chris Byrd came to us for help on a presentation he wanted to make to Arnold Palmer Enterprises. For decades, people had been mixing/drinking/serving a concoction of half-tea, half-lemonade affectionately known as an Arnold Palmer. The drink made famous by the legendary golfer was ubiquitous, but neither Mr. Palmer or his organization benefited from it. Following a game of golf, Chris and his partners hatched the idea to define, brand and market the drink so that they, and Palmer Enterprises, would benefit.
Working with Chris we designed the original logo — a lemon wedge pierced by a golf tea — and helped him develop the presentation to Mr. Palmer that resulted in the creation of Arnold Palmer Tea and then, years later, the Arizona Arnold Palmer Half & Half.
We’ve continue to support Chris’ role with this brand as it has evolved over the year and are always looking for new audiences to which we can tell the story. One proud moment — the original logo design was featured as part of Jeopardy question.
“TKO Logos for $400, Alex!” 😉
But it still costs only $.99.
